A Length of Large Scale Katazome Dyed Cotton: Fancy Wood Sorrel and Arabesque
$45.00 USD
late nineteenth century
21" x 13", 53.25 cm x 33 cm
This length of hand spun, hand woven katazome dyed cotton shows a repeat pattern of what appear to be fancifully stylized wood sorrel which sit amid a background of arabesque, or karakusa, as it is called in Japan.
The design is large in scale and the repeat is regular: the design is enhanced by pale grey coloring, judiciously placed.
There is a stain or darkening to the upper right corner of the cloth, shown here, but otherwise this length of hand spun, hand woven cotton is in good, used condition.
