This piece of beautiful, indigo dyed cotton plaid cloth is rich in ito aji, or, as Japanese say, "thread flavor" and it is very much the type of cloth that was woven in homes during the 19th century. The ito aji quality has to do with the cloth's yarns being home spun.
The large-scale plaid cloth is hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns and shows a mending patch; the two pieces are hand stitched together.
A simple and beautiful piece of traditionally woven cotton from old Japan.
