A Patched Length of Striped Cotton: Subtle Colors

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
68" x 13 1/4", 173 cm x 33.5 cm

This is an interesting length of cotton which was woven to show wide stripes in alternating values, light and dark.

The dark stripes are indigo while the light stripes seem to be a woven from a few different colored yarns, notably light pink, dark pink and white.  The pinks could very well be safflower of benibana as its called in Japan.  In any case the cloth appears to be woven from hand spun cotton yarns and its hand is rich and textured.

Note the wonderfully colored cotton patched affixed to the top third of the cloth.

A gorgeous length of hand weaving from old Japan.
