A Length of Arashi Shibori: Storm Pattern

$35.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
26" x 12 1/2", 66 cm x 32 cm

This short length of indigo dyed cotton shibori was done in the arashi technique, arashi being the Japanese word for "storm" and as this length shows an intense repetition of diagonal lines it is easy to see why the word storm is used to describe this pattern.

The lines are of slightly different widths but they are all narrow.

The colors are blue on white and as this is a hand dyeing technique it is easy to understand why the widths of the lines are uneven and why there are some skips to the pattern.

In good, used condition.

Lovely.
