$80.00 USD

early twentieth century
31 1/2" x 13 3/4", 80 cm x 35 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed katazome cotton that has an unusual proportion or ratio of blue to white tones, additionally there is a kind of linear quality to the design that adds another layer of interest to the pattern.

The design is based on octagons and squares and within each octagon and square there is an invented flower design. Judiciously added touches of orange tone pigment dye create a bit more depth and interest to the overall design.

The pattern is one that might be attempting to evoke the effect of a luxurious, brocade woven silk cloth as some katazome cloth is designed with this intention.

It is in good, used, condition and its crisp and tight design with the white toned qualities it shows makes for an attractive and not-so-usual katazome pattern.
