A Length of Brown Toned Katazome Cotton: Chrysanthemums

This is a length of softly textured, hand woven cotton that has been dyed in the katazome or stencil resist dyed technique. It has been dyed in a fairly unusual brown tone, the quality of the color seems to indicate that a naturally-derived dye was used.

The pattern is that of multi-petaled, highly stylized chrysanthemums that are set in a kind of repeated, diagonal orientation.

The cloth is used and although there is no glaring damage to it, by its soft hand it is clear it has been well used in its lifetime.
