A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Exaggerated, Stylized Flowers

$85.00 USD

early twentieth century
29" x 13 1/2", 74 cm x 34 cm

This is a modest length of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth that shows a repeat pattern of large scale, stylized--and seemingly invented--flower forms.

The white flowers are set against a background of swirling arabesque which is studded with evenly spaced, all over dots, creating a sparkling effect for the prominently displayed flower shapes.

The design is unusual and the condition is good: the indigo is still deeply toned and rich in color and the contrast between background and foreground is crisp and strong.
