A Length of Elaborately Designed Shippo Tsunagi Katazome Cloth: Rich Pattern
$70.00 USD
late nineteenth century
31" x 12 3/4", 79 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a length of deeply dyed katazome cotton that shows an elaborate repeat pattern of interlocking circles known in Japan as shippo tsunagi. In Japanese design there are endless variations on this traditional, Chinese-borrowed motif and this is one of a legion.
The field of interlocking circles has a fancy look and in between the circles sits a repeat design of stylized chrysanthemums.
More than likely this length was taken from a futon cover and with the exception of one stain (shown) the cloth is in good, used condition.
Very attractive.
