A Length of Boldly Patterned Zanshi ori: Leftover Yarn Weaving

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
64" x 13 1/2", 162.5 cm x 34 cm

Zanshi ori is cloth that is woven from threads either leftover from home production of yarn making, or from broken threads that were purchased from local commercial weavers.

Usually the warp is regulated and the weft is fed with these random threads  producing an irregular horizontal 'striping'; if home threads are used, knotted slubs can often be seen.

This length is interesting for its color combination of a tan tone, white and indigo blue, and if you look at the close ups on the detail images you will see some slubbing of white threads which, as is said above, is a characteristic of zanshi ori cloth.

In good, used condition this is a lovely piece of zanshi ori with a good color combination.
