A Length of Plaid Cotton: Kasuri Yarns on Weft and Warp

$65.00 USD

early twentieth century
57" x 13 1/4", 145 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a length of dark-toned, plaid cotton cloth of a fairly large repeat pattern.

The color tones are played down and are of a fairly low contrast: the reddish-orange tone which adds levity to the otherwise-dark background of the design is also thin and not saturated.

Interesting that kasuri yarns were used to feed both the warp and the weft, in so doing they create a kind of sparkle that this regular design in dark colors needs.

Unusual and lovely.
