A Tsutsugaki Dyed Furoshiki: Indigo Dyed Wrapping Cloth

This is an indigo dyed cotton tsutsugaki furoshiki, a furoshiki being a traditional square-shaped cloth used in Japan for wrapping, carrying, hauling and storing of items.

This one is of good size and shows a beautiful set of motifs.

The center motif of three squares of diamonds with an "eye" in the center of each is a family crest. It is unclear what the geometric shape in the upper right hand corner signifies; opposite it on the bottom left is a family name rendered in kanji or Chinese characters.

The indigo color is clear and bright. The cloth itself shows wear and is repaired--by looking at the attached detail photos you will see stitching which indicates there is patching to the reverse side.

As well, note that the center of the furoshiki is a bit distended or misshapen from wear and this is now a permanent feature of this cloth.
