A Sakiori Obi: Tight, Variegated Plaid

$95.00 USD

mid twentieth century
122" x 6 3/4", 310 cm x 17 cm

This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.

Its coloration is based in narrow, colored bars of a regular width that travel up the length of the obi, changing from variegated to more regulated set of colors a quarter of the way up the obi.

The warp yarns are of multi-colored dyed cotton which give the plaid like quality to the design of the obi.

This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the colors are handsome.

A beautiful, richly toned folk textile in a fairly unusual color palette and a good example of a sakiori obi.
