A Length of Small Scale Patterned Katazome Cotton: Willow and Pine

$75.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
26" x 13", 66 cm x 33 cm

This length of indigo dyed katazome cotton shows an unusual pattern, some of the images of which are undecipherable.

The pattern is based on two bars set against a background of willow branches, stylized pine and some kind of bird which is too lacking in detail to identify.

This type of pattern was often used on han juban or half under kimono, and the length of this piece identifies it as such.

The pattern is not-often-seen and it is nice and crisp due to the fact that it is resist dyed on both its sides. The indigo is rich in tone and the cloth is in good, used condition.

This is a very good quality length of old katazome cotton.
