A Length of Gauzy Cotton Katazome: Hexagons and Roundels

This is a length of beautifully woven cotton--it is hand woven from hand spun yarns--which is dyed in the stencil resist dye method called katazome.

The cotton is lightweight and gauzy in feel and it drapes nicely.

The pattern is based on a complex repeat of design of interlocking hexagons inside of which are circles and invented, fantastic flower forms.

The indigo dye has faded or oxidized to appear to be a medium tone grey and there are just  few small holes along the length and at one of the ends which are shown on the accompanying detail photographs.

A lovely length of old, hand woven katazome dyed cotton with an interesting and complicated pattern.
