A Length of Deeply Toned Indigo Katazome: Ruffled Peonies

This is a length of deeply toned, indigo dyed katazome cotton that shows a repeat pattern of intricately drawn peonies set within a roundel and placed against a background of delicately configured arabesque.

The peonies are definitely the star of the show as they are touched heavily with white so they stand out from the dark background.

The design itself has something of a Victorian or European feel which could very well be due to the cultural exchange between Japan and Europe starting in the mid nineteenth century.

The length is in good, used condition with a lovely, velvety blue tone and with wonderfully executed peonies.
