A Pieced Kasuri Furoshiki: Machine Stitched with Sashiko Stitched Edges

$50.00 USD

mid twentieth century
38" x 29 1/2", 96.5 cm x 75 cm

This is a relatively heavy weight cotton kasuri furoshiki, that is, an ikat woven traditional Japanese carrying cloth.

The kasuri is of a very handsome design and is weft-based; its deep, rich colors are beautiful.

The furoshiki is machine stitched from smaller pieces while the two long edges of the furoshiki are sashiko stitched by hand, adding a visual charm and a sturdiness to this everyday cloth.

The furoshiki is in good, used condition and its center is a bit distended from its long life of carrying and hauling.

Very attractive.
