A Child's Boro Kimono: Pieced with Yellow Exterior

$115.00 USD

early twentieth century
25" x 24 1/2", 63.5 cm x 62 cm

Shown here is a child's small, padded kimono that is turned inside-out to reveal the beautifully pieced and mended interior: the proper outside of the kimono is of an unusual, pale, yellow color in what appears to be some kind of cotton flannel material.

The lining is where the beauty of the small coat is; no wonder as more often than not the boro pieces we enjoy looking at are viewed inside-out so we can admire their patching.

This child's garment is a window into old Japan and it is an interesting document that allows us a glimpse into another time.

Beautiful.
