A Length of Katazome Dyed Hemp or Ramie Cloth: Nine Patches

This is a length of hemp or ramie cloth that has been dyed in the katazome method.

The texture of the cloth is supple and flowy, the pattern on the cloth is interesting. It shows a background of tall, straight bamboo against which are square shapes, each of which contains an image, most of them auspicious: counterweights, Buddhist flaming pearls, clove buds, scrolls of knowledge, interlocking circles, etc.

The condition of the cloth shows some light stains and some holes, the type of which are noted on detail photos here. 

Hand stitched to the surface of the length are nine beautiful patches, each of the same material as the base and this is a wonderful visual element to the already complex pattern.
