A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton: One Large Patch with Good Stitching
$85.00 USD
early twentieth century
50" x 13 1/4", 127 cm x 33.5 cm
This straightforward length of stitched cloth is composed of two pieces of hand spun, hand woven cotton, one deep in tone and the other pale in tone.
The length shows one large patch affix to the bottom and it is stitched in neat rows of sashiko stitching done in dark indigo thread.
The appearance of the length seems to unintentionally evoke the look of a Japanese scroll painting which is one of the pleasures of admiring Japanese patched and mended cloth: there is so much to see and so many comparisons to other things to imagine.
