A Length of 19th Century Plaid Boro: Hand Spun Cottons

$75.00 USD

late nineteenth century
67" x 13 1/4", 170 cm x 33.5 cm

The base cloth of this boro length is just beautiful--it hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns and shows a large-scale plaid pattern, the plaid being shot through with kasuri yarns.

This panel is hand stitched from two pieces and has been well-worn as it shows surface patina from wear, as well as some snags and small holes. The cloth is beautifully woven and the pattern and materials are emblematic of the type of cotton woven in Japan in the 19th century.

There are two patches which are stitched to the surface.

A beautiful country textile from old Japan.
