A Sample Book of Dyer's Swatches: Crepe Silk

$185.00 USD

early twentieth century
7" x 10 1/2",

5 pages, 54 colors

Shown here is a cardboard book of color samples from a traditional Japanese dye works: the colors shown in the book are not botanical and their array and arrangement is super delightful to look at.

The "windows" are cut in a very nice shape and you could say that they recall the form of a gourd.

Each of the swatches is of chirimen or crepe silk and each swatch is sandwiched between two lightweight carboard sheets, the top one cut out to reveal the various colored swatches.

Of course from decades of handling the book has some surface patina and some ingrained dirt from wear, but overall the book is in good condition.

Really lovely.
