A Very Abraded Sashiko Stitched Diaper: Layers

$30.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
23" x 12 3/4", 58.5 cm x 32.5 cm

The charming, sashiko stitched and kasuri dyed very abraded boro textile is a diaper.  Three layers of recycled indigo dyed cotton cloth were stitched together to create it, with its two sides showing significant abrasion to the top layers: this abrasion reveals the layer in between.

Both sides are quite faded from time and from wear.  The kasuri pattern is very spare and the sashiko stitching is still very strong as it reinforces the layers of cloth.

Super charming, this cloth shows wonderful age and wear--and it is still very much intact as it was when it was originally made.
