A Very Long Piece of Katazome Dyed Cotton: End Bolt and Patches
early twentieth century
128" x 13", 325 cm x 33 cm
This is a very long piece of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth that shows a repeat pattern of highly stylized chrysanthemums.
The generously sized length is stitched from two pieces and in one of the photos that accompany this post you will see the end bolt and its marking, always a treat to find.
The length shows several light-colored patches, each of them illustrated in detail photos here and each of them hardly visible if you were to see the other side of the length.
This shows a classic resist dyed pattern used for futon covers and there is so much of it here--many projects can be realized from this one, long piece.
