A Small Katazome Mat: Hand Finished Edges

This small mat is hand stitched from a piece of old katazome dyed cotton and has been backed using equally old indigo dyed cotton: it seems to have been made by hand many, many years ago.
The finishing stitches on this lovely, small mat are expertly done and show age.
The katazome cloth is of hand spun cotton and shows a design of chrysanthemums floating against a background of disjointed arabesques or karakusa.
The cotton on both front and back is faded from age.
This is a wonderful little surprise-of-a-textile and would look wonderful on your table.
