A Section of Katazome Sampler Bolt: Faux Kasuri
$160.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
71" x 13 3/4", 180.5 cm x 35 cm
This good-sized length of cotton is taken from a dyer's sample which was presumably a full bolt of around 12 meters.
This section shows eight designs of large-scale katazome patterns, the patterns drawn in a way that is meant to mimic kasuri or ikat.
The length is dyed in very dark indigo or indigo mixed with black dye so the finished effect is a very, very dark tone of indistinct color that appears black to eye.
A good looking length of cloth with wonderful references to the creating of traditional cloth in Japan.
Recommended.
