A Resist Dyed Festival Collar: Stripes
$30.00 USD
ca. early to mid twentieth century
63" x 3", 160 cm x 7.5 cm
This narrow length of boldly patterned cotton cloth is said to be a collar from a festival coat or happi.
The cotton is resist dyed indigo in wide, regular, diagonal stripes; the cloth itself is one-half loom width which has been vertically folded to produce this narrow length.
A delightful and appealing cotton cloth with an interesting history, and one that was witness to some vigorous and rollicking good times at local, sake-fueled matsuri or celebrations.
Just lovely.
