A Piece of Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: Many, Many Motifs

$75.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
23 1/2" x 13", 59.5 cm x 33 cm

This piece of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth is packed with a great variety of design motifs and it is stencil resisted on both sides of cloth in order to create a clearer or sharper image.

Shown on the cloth are many well-depicted images. Seen here are chrysanthemums, peonies, cherry blossoms, pine needles, maple leaves and folding fans--and all are arranged in an absolutely charming, repeat design that is light hearted, buoyant and fun to look at.

The piece is in good, used condition and it shows some light fading, some surface wear and some overall use from the passage of time.

It is just delightful for its many motifs and for the artistic arrangement of all of them.
