A Patched Length of Jishiro Katazome Cotton: Powdery Blue

$95.00 USD

late nineteenth century
42 1/2" x 13", 108 cm x 33 cm

Although the front of this katazome dyed length is very attractive, the back is being shown because of the lovely, powdery color and the patches which are such a nice visual addition to the length. The cloth is hand woven of hand spun cotton yarn.

The blue-on-white katazome mark this is a slightly more complex type: it is a bit harder to dye this than to dye the white-on-blue designs.

This one shows phoenixes and paulownia blooms rendered as roundels and amid this are elaborately designed arabesque, a wonderful pattern.

The design as seen here, and the wonderfully soft color, makes this something delightful to behold.
