Narumi kongata is a beautiful type of stencil resist cloth which utilized a set of stencils when used in combination would yield a length of cloth that mimicked the look of shibori as soft edges and shibori-like effects would be seen on the finished cloth.

Here we see a long length of very good indigo dyed cotton Narumi kongata which is composed of four pieces and contains 2 patches.

It shows a richly rendered repeat pattern of faux shibori swallows amid a field of blackened, faux shibori cherry blossoms along with either weeping cherry or willow branches.

The background is inky, sapphire-like blue-black in tone and the condition of this pieced length is good and used. Certainly the resist dyed image is still rich in color and the pattern is crisp to the eye.

A wonderful length of generous size.
