A Lightweight Katazome Cotton Futon Cover Fragment: Holes

$95.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
65" x 51 1/2", 166 cm x 131 cm

This four-panel very lightweight and crisp cotton futon cover was dyed in the katazome method using indigo. Its pattern shows chrysanthemums and arabesques; the back side of the cloth is pictured here.

The cotton is almost brittle from age and as you can see from the detail photos attached to this post, there are some tears and quite a few small holes all over the surface of this futon cover.

This piece is fragile but it contains a good amount of cloth and would be very nice to admire as artwork or is serviceable enough to be taken apart to be used in craft or design projects.

Lovely color and pattern.
