A Length of Stitched Together Samples of Yamatogasuri: Distinctive Kasuri Cotton from Nara
late nineteenth century
70" x 13 1/4", 178 cm x 33.5 cm
This is length of kasuri dyed cotton that is made of four joined pieces of cloth known as Yamato gasuri.
Yamato gasuri is woven in countless variations that show great differences in scale, tone and design. This particular length is wonderful in that it shows four pieces and three patterns of this distinctive, kasuri dyed cotton, each one delicate in nature.
Note on some of them you see part of the end bolt that shows just the warp yarns--this is interesting.
This is a great piece to own, especially if you are a fan of kasuri dyeing or enjoy the inspiration that comes from looking at it.
