A Length of Poetic Katazome Dyed Cotton: Folding Fans

What a beautiful length of old katazome dyed cotton--the cotton yarns are beautifully hand spun and the hand woven texture has the "thread flavor" that Japanese people savor.

The repeat pattern of a cascade of fluttering fans, each bearing some kind of poetic writing or a beautiful image create a delicate aura evoking the past. 

The faded colors marry beautifully with the textured cloth; the "staining" of the grey dye on the fans gives the feeling of a watercolor painting in its freedom of application. Quite attractive.

The indigo dye is warm blue. Aside from the grey details there are also some done in black which add depth to the design.

In good, used condition this is a desirable length of katazome for its age, its pattern and its execution.
