A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Two Patches and Cherry Blossoms

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
45 1/2" x 13", 115.5 cm x 33 cm

This playfully designed length of indigo dyed katazome cotton shows a pattern of a kind of triple-tiered cherry blossom against a dark pattern of swirling arabesque. The flowers are tinted with faded tones of ochre and grey which add further levity to this charming pattern.

You will notice on the first or lead photograph that there is a beautifully mended hole, this one is stitched by machine which is uttlerly charming. Again shown in detail here is another mend to another hole, this one is stitched by hand.

As well please notice some darkening to isolated areas near the machine stitched mend.

There is some light fading and slight surface abrasion to this length--and the hand woven, hand spun yarns that are used to create it add depth and integrity to the length.

Wonderful details on a delightful katazome pattern.
