A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Tonal Floral Diamond Pattern
early twentieth century
70" x 13", 178 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed katazome cotton whose repeat pattern of diamond-shaped chrysanthemums has graphic appeal.
The diamond flowers are drawn in such a way that they appear light and shaded in alternating rows. Interspersed between them are symmetrically designed pairs of stylized butterflies also configured as a diamond.
The indigo is almost blue/black and there is some bleeding of the indigo in areas. As well there are some very, very faint stains--almost unnoticeable--in the undyed areas, both of which are shown on the accompanying detail photos.
A beautiful length of eye dazzling katazome cotton.
