A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Three Stitched Fragments
early twentieth century
35" x 13 1/2", 89 cm x 34 cm
This length of indigo cotton is dyed in the katazome or stencil resist dyed method. The pattern is that crosses that are rendered in such a way as to suggest they were brushed on. The pattern was stenciled on both sides of the cloth.
The length itself is hand stitched from three separate pieces each of a slightly different width. There are three patches hand stitched to the entire length whos blue color is still quite rich.
A charmingly straightforward pattern that enhances this length this is a good piece to take apart to use in projects, to display as art or to use as home decor.
