A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Three Fans

$135.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
61" x 13 1/2", 155 cm x 34 cm

This is a beautifully unusual length of indigo dyed katazome cloth that is hand woven from luscious hand spun yarns.

The pattern is one of three types of fans and the effect of the design is joyous, syncopated and upbeat. The fans are a nod to familiar, traditional implements and especially notable is the fan made of feathers: quite delightful.

The dyeing of the cloth is done in a rather rustic way and the pattern is as bold as it is playful.

Quite an unusual design and on cloth that has very good age and a soulful woven quality.
