A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Oversized Chrysanthemums

This is short length of old katazome dyed cotton that has faded to soft grey-blue tones with gentle hues of pure grey which lend a sense of visual openness to the overall pattern.

The design is that of large-scale, stylized chrysanthemums that are set against a background of a narrow arabesque pattern. The cloth is of hand spun, hand woven cotton and, as such, has a wonderfully soulful texture.

The pattern is spirited and there is an element of playfulness in the way the chrysanthemums are placed and detailed.

Note light fading and overall, faint surface abrasion to the piece.
