A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Large Scale Cranes and Pine

$95.00 USD

early twentieth century
56 1/2" x 13 1/4", 143.5 cm x 35 cm

This is a length of faded, indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth that shows a large repeat of flying cranes and shrub-like pines positioned in opposing directions.

The crane and pine images are both wonderfully detailed in their drawing and each is tinted with tonalities of grey which add depth to each of the images.

Both the crane and the pine are symbols which convey a wish for longevity, and each, too, symbolizes hope for a happy marriage, the reason for this is that cranes mate for life and pine needles fall in pairs.

As stated above this length is faded and worn. Part of the used condition of this panel is that there are small nicks and holes to be found--some pictured here--and none of which detract from the overall visual enjoyment of this beautifully rendered cloth.
