A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Dynamic Design

$75.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
39 1/2" x 13 1/4", 100 cm x 33.5 cm

This length of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth shows a rich pattern of spikey chrysanthemums that are set against a field of karakusa or arabesque. The design is made in such a way as to evoke a churning quality or a kind of movement to the pattern.

The cotton yarns are hand spun and the cotton cloth is handwoven: the rough selvedges, shown attest to this.

The design of the cloth shows a nice ratio of image as set in proportion to the width of the length of hand woven, hand dyed indigo cloth.

Just beautiful.
