This is a fanciful length of stencil resist dyed cotton which shows a repeat pattern of twin stylized chrysanthemums in staggered pairs of dark and light stylized chrysanthemums.
The arrangement of these flowers is shingled in a sense, but there is a striking sense of design because the interplay of light and dark is foremost in the composition.
In good, used condition, this is a beautiful length of indigo dyed cotton. The cotton seems hand spun and is of good weight. Also, there is a large patch on the back of this cloth and stitching can be seen on the surface of this length.
A delightful design and composition--wonderful.
