A Length of Katazome Cotton: Indian Floral Mood
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
37" x 13", 94 cm x 33 cm
This is an elaborately designed and executed length of nicely toned old katazome cloth.
It shows a kind of "Indian inspired" repeat pattern that is composed of three different types of stylized chrysanthemums.
The rendering of these chrysanthemums relies heavily on white tracery lines which look delicate and luminous against the dark blue background. A generous amount of red toned highlight colors add richness to the overall pattern.
The condition of this length is good but used and it still has a very good, deep tonal quality that shows little fading.
Just beautiful.
