A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Faux Kasuri: Katazome Dyeing
early twentieth century
29 1/2" x 13 1/4", 75 cm x 33.5 cm
This wonderfully straightforward-looking length of white-patterned indigo dyed cloth is not so straightforward if given a second glance.
The length is patterned to look like kasuri or ikat woven cloth but in fact it is stencil resist dyed or katazome.
The indigo blue tone is effective in pairing with this pattern as it creates something nice to look at.
The double kasuri effect of the stencil resist dyeing is really charming--and as there is another similar piece offered today (that one is dyed brown) they make a good-looking pair.
In good, used condition, fairly light in weight, and delightful to look at, this is a lovely length of old katazome dyed cotton.
