A Length of Indian Inspired Katazome Dyed Cotton: Imagined Flowers
$90.00 USD
early twentieth century
38 1/2" x 13 /14", 98 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a length of katazome dyed cotton that shows a pattern of decidedly Indian-inspired origin.
The boisterous design is crowded with fantasy flowers and some trailing vines. The indigo blue reads more as a cobalt than sapphire and the brick red details are cool in tone.
The cloth is in good, used condition with one small hole at the very top of the length, and otherwise it is in a state that is relevant to its age of over 100 years.
This is a charming design that is borrowed from another culture and freely interpreted by a Japanese craftsperson.
