A Length of Indian Inspired Katazome Cotton: Lush Pattern
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
60" x 13 3/4", 152.5 cm x 35 cm
This length of katazome dyed cotton shows a design of what appear to be Indian inspired fantasy flowers, each of which is large in scale and seems to be floating in a lovely repeat pattern along the length of the cloth
The design is enhanced by pale grey coloring, judiciously placed, which adds depth and implied motion to overall design.
There is a small-sized hole to the top of the cloth, along with some overall, light wear that does not significantly detract from the visual enjoyment of the piece.
The cotton yarns of this beautiful length of katazome cloth are hand spun, a desirable feature of Japanese folk textiles.
Recommended.
