A Length of Hand Spun Hand Woven Cotton: Brown Toned Wisteria Roundels

$45.00 USD

late nineteenth century
25 1/4" x 12 1/4", 64 cm x 31 cm

This short length of katazome dyed cotton shows a beautiful, warm brown color, no doubt botanically derived, possibly from plant bark or some kind of nut.

The cotton cloth is simply beautiful in that it is hand spun and hand woven, two very desirable aspects when considering old Japanese folk textiles.

As well, the large-scale pattern showing wisteria blooms set as roundels is graphically interesting as well as delicately beautiful.

With just some light fading and some as-to-be-expected surface wear this length of old cloth is in good, used condition--and shows a desirable, fairly unusual pattern.
