A Length of Gauzy Cotton: Striped Festival Cloth

$70.00 USD

early twentieth century
70" x 13 3/4", 178 cm x 35 cm

This is a gauzy length of lightweight cotton that has been stencil resist dyed in a pattern of narrow, horizontal, indigo dyed stripes.

The length shows three creases along the length of cloth which means this was once folded to create a narrow piece. This type of cloth was used at festivals and it seems that this probably was intended to be used as part of a horse's festival wear, more than likely it was a festive horse rein.

The top of the length narrows for some reason as can be seen in the overall shot of it. As mentioned above the cloth is soft, drapey and clingy and it is in good, used condition.
