A Length of Faded Katazome Cotton: Floral Roundels

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
57" x 13", 145 cm x 33 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed katazome cotton that has faded or oxidized to a medium-soft, greyish tone. The cotton is of good quality meaning that it is tightly woven and quite sturdy still.

The pattern is a lovely one.

It is a depiction of stylized peonies formed as roundels which are set against arabesques that are diagonally oriented and fairly parallel to each other.

As stated above the cloth is faded and is well-used; it shows wear from useĀ in the form of loss of vibrant tone and some overall surface wear.

An unusual depiction of peonies and a not-often-seen pattern as well.

Lovely.
