A Length of Faded Katazome: Bishamon Kikko

$80.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
32 1/2" x 12 1/2", 82.5 cm x 32 cm

This length of faded, indigo dyed katazome cloth has turned from its original blue tone to a soft, grey color, quite attractive.

Its complex design is a traditional one in Japan which is called bishamonkikko, named for one of Japanese fiery warrior god, Bishamonten, who is one of the seven lucky gods in Japan. It is said this pattern was depicted on his armor so, in saying that, there are auspicious connections to this design.

The length is hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns and with that it has a wonderfully rich texture, one that you would want from an old Japanese folk textile. Please note some small, dark toned stains, shown on the accompanying detail photos.
