A Length of Faded and Low Contrast Katazome Cotton: Delicate Chrysanthemums

$70.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
30" x  13 3/4", 76 cm x 35 cm

This is a length of katazome dyed cotton that has been used hard: its surface is faded and it is obvious there is wear to it.

The general color tone has been taken down many notches from its original, fairly high contrast tones which can still be seen on the selvedges.

The design is delicate. Because of this it harmonizes well with the aged quality of the piece.

The pattern is a repeat of floating, stylized chrysanthemums that are accompanied by curling, long stems and leaves. The background is composed fully of small dots that lends a sparkling element to the design.

With its fading, wear and some ingrained dirt this is a well-used length of katazome cotton and one that benefits from the passage of time.
