A Length of Blue on White Katazome Dyed Cotton: Hand Spun Cotton

$95.00 USD

late nineteenth century
64" x 12 3/4", 162.5 cm x 32.5 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cotton katazome whose design is blue-on-white versus the more commonly seen white-on-blue. The pattern, too, is slightly well-known; it is peonies against a background of karakusa or arabesque.

The Japanese term for blue-on-white katazome designs is jishiro and jishiro fabrics are slightly more desirable than their counterparts, only because the process for dyeing them requires more skill than for the other.

This length is hand woven from beautiful hand spun cotton yarns, the condition is good and used and there is a patch to the upper right hand corner of the length.

A classic pattern that is beautifully executed, this length of katazome dyed cotton has a great deal of charm.
